The School of Childhood and Social Care at the University of East London (UEL) offers innovative education and training in childhood and social care professions, focusing on social justice and community engagement. We are dedicated to shaping future leaders and emphasize inclusive and practice-oriented education, preparing students to make a positive impact in diverse communities.
We have a long-standing psychology community at UEL with a strong reputation for psychology education, professional training, and research. The Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) is an NHS‑commissioned course, training senior NHS employees to become qualified clinical psychologists. As well as clinical practice and academic study, our trainees undertake advanced training in research knowledge and skills, and over the three years of the course, submit a substantive literature review, service‑related research, and a doctoral thesis.
Aboutthe Job
We are looking for a Research Tutor to join the enthusiastic and committed course team. The Research Tutor works with the Research Director on the development, delivery, assessment, and monitoring of the research programme in the course, and contributes to the research, academic, and administrative activities of the course and the School. The Research Tutor supports the trainees and staff to undertake research in health innovation, interdisciplinary and community engagement;
and in advancing inclusive, equitable, and anti‑discriminatory research in clinical psychology.
- Provide teaching across the course, on research and related activities, including evidence‑based practice, research appraisal, literature search/review, design, methods, and analysis.
- Undertake research supervision for trainees, providing guidance on topic area, methods, analysis, and evaluation; and the internal examination and chairing of thesis vivas.
- Contribute to our systems for the ethical review, governance, and approval for research activities and thesis topics, including reviewing applications on behalf of the ethics committee.
- Identify research topics and supervisors for the thesis, and assist with the allocation of trainees to the projects, including proposal development and registration.
- Support the course staff in developing skills and competencies in research, research supervision, and examination; and building research capacity within the team.
