The Director of Careers & Industry Engagement plays a key role in shaping students’ career readiness and employability through the strategic leadership of careers, employability and entrepreneurship provision at the new, modern, University of Huddersfield London campus. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with employers, industry partners and professional networks, creating opportunities that connect academic learning with real-world practice.

In addition, the Director provides oversight of the campus careers service, ensuring students have access to high-quality careers guidance, employability support, work-based learning opportunities and entrepreneurial pathways. Through this integrated approach, the role helps deliver an industry-focused student experience that equips international students with the skills, knowledge, experience and professional connections needed to succeed in their future careers.

About the Role Strategic Leadership
  • Work with the School leadership team to achieve the aspirational targets for student outcomes and satisfaction and other commercial and contractual KPIs.
  • Contribute to insights and evidence to inform strategic development of the partnership, including courses and progression routes of pathway prgrammes to maximise recruitment opportunities and keep offering current.
  • Deliver and continuously improve the Industry Engagement and Employability strategy, evaluating its effectiveness and identifying areas for continuous improvement.
  • Attend and actively contribute to relevant partnership committees and work with university colleagues through approved liaison points.
Leadership, management and personal development
  • Actively lead the careers and industry engagement team,motivating them to deliver high-quality student experience and graduate outcomes, as well as excellent client experience for external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all persons employed are suitably qualified, trained, honest and experienced and carry out their duties in a professional manner in line with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the allocation of resources, ensuring that employment activities are planned and delivered within an agreed budget and meet operational margins.
  • Provide effective performance management of direct reports, including: setting personal objectives and KPIs; regularly reviewing performance of direct reports; and conducting formal performance reviews according to Study Group policy and procedures.
  • Facilitate, encourage and support staff to participate in regular continuous professional development activity.
Operational Management
  • Lead the planning, management and delivery of all careers services, industry and employability programmes and activities that facilitate student internships and job placements.
  • Orchestrate industry-related events such as careers fairs, guest lectures, and workshops.
  • Liaise with academic teams on opportunities to embed employability in the curriculum.
