Location: Gaydon

For over a century, Aston Martin has created some of the world’s most iconic ultra‑luxury performance vehicles. Every Aston Martin begins with a vision, one that combines breathtaking design, exhilarating performance and exceptional craftsmanship. As we continue to define the future of ultra‑luxury mobility, we are seeking an Automotive Benchmarking Lead to help shape the next generation of Aston Martin products.

This is a highly influential opportunity to play a leading role in concept‑phase vehicle development, providing the competitive insights that underpin future product decisions. Working closely with Concept Engineering, Advanced Engineering and Design teams, you will help define ambitious yet achievable targets that ensure Aston Martin vehicles continue to deliver world‑class performance, refinement and brand differentiation.

As Automotive Benchmarking Lead, you will own and define the benchmarking strategy for future ultra‑luxury high‑performance vehicle concepts. You will identify and evaluate competitor vehicles, technologies and innovations that align with Aston Martin’s brand positioning, customer expectations and performance ambitions. Through robust benchmarking activities, you will provide the data and insight needed to support concept definition, target setting and programme business cases, ensuring informed decisions are made at the earliest stages of vehicle development.

A key part of the role will be leading benchmarking activities throughout the concept and advanced engineering phases, ensuring benchmark data collection is planned, executed and communicated to the highest standard. Your work will provide valuable insight to guide vehicle architecture, packaging, mass optimisation, performance delivery and both driven and non‑driven attribute trade‑offs. By translating complex technical data into meaningful vehicle‑level targets and attribute definitions, you will directly influence future vehicle concepts and support concept selection decisions through objective assessment and opportunity analysis.

You will be responsible for executing detailed benchmarking studies across key vehicle components, systems and attributes. This includes evaluating suspension, braking systems, powertrain technologies and aerodynamic solutions, alongside broader vehicle systems such as chassis, thermal management, NVH and electrical and electronic architectures. Equally important will be your ability to assess the characteristics that define an exceptional ultra‑luxury performance vehicle, balancing objective engineering measurement with subjective vehicle evaluation to understand both technical capability and customer perception.

Working across multiple programmes and stakeholders, you will continually seek opportunities to improve benchmarking efficiency and effectiveness. This will involve streamlining instrumentation strategies and data acquisition activities, eliminating duplication and ensuring engineering teams are able to gather the right information in the most efficient manner. You will establish and maintain consistent benchmarking methods, metrics and governance processes that deliver reliable, repeatable and high‑quality results across all benchmarking activities.

Beyond data collection and analysis, you will be expected to convert benchmarking findings into compelling stories, actionable recommendations and strategic insights that support senior decision‑makers. You will develop and maintain a structured benchmarking knowledge base covering vehicles, emerging technologies and future trends, creating a valuable resource that supports long‑term product development. You will also represent Aston Martin at industry events, conferences and exhibitions, providing senior stakeholders with expert analysis of competitor activity, technological developments and market trends that may influence future vehicle programmes.

To be successful in this role, you will be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline and will have experience within automotive benchmarking, vehicle engineering or performance attribute development. You will bring strong…
