Position Type: Long-Term Substitute
Reports To: Director of Career & Community Learning
Location: Stratford Adult & Continuing Education Program Sites
Schedule: Evening classes — 2 hours per session, 2 days per week (Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu); total of 4 hours per week
Stratford Adult & Continuing Education is seeking a qualified and reliable Long-Term Substitute Digital Literacy Teacher to support adult learners in developing essential technology skills for college, career, and daily life. The successful candidate will provide instruction aligned with College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and nationally recognized digital literacy frameworks in an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
Instructional Responsibilities- Deliver instruction in digital literacy, including:
- Basic computer operations
- Internet navigation and online research
- Email and digital communication
- Word processing and productivity tools
- Online forms and applications
- Differentiate instruction for diverse learners with varied skill levels and language needs
- Integrate real-world technology tasks related to employment, education, and daily living
- Support students in building confidence and independence with digital tools
- Maintain lesson plans aligned to CCRS and program curriculum expectations
- Accurately record attendance and student seat hours
- Maintain grading and progress records using Power School or designated systems
- Assess student learning through skills-based and performance-based tasks
- Communicate concerns to counseling or administrative staff as needed
- Provide progress feedback and instructional recommendations
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and support staff
- Support curriculum and instructional technology integration as needed
- Maintain professional growth related to adult education and digital instruction
- Connecticut Adult Education Certification (Endorsement #106), or eligibility to obtain
- Certification in Business, Technology Education, or Computer Science preferred
- Experience working with adult learners or diverse populations preferred
- Knowledge of CCRS for Adult Education and digital literacy competencies
- Strong classroom management and instructional technology skills
- Commitment to equitable and culturally responsive teaching practices
