SPD Sales Engineer & EstimatorThe SPD Sales Engineer & Estimator is responsible for developing, managing, and growing the Special Projects Division (SPD). This role owns the full lifecycle of special projects—from identifying and selling opportunities to engineering, estimating, presenting, and managing HVAC and plumbing projects. The position works closely with operations, service teams, and leadership to drive profitable growth, maintain strong customer relationships, and ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute a structured sales process for SPD growth
- Identify, pursue, and close new HVAC and plumbing opportunities
- Conduct site walks, field inspections, and scope validation
- Design and engineer HVAC and plumbing solutions to meet client needs
- Prepare accurate estimates, proposals, and presentations
- Present and negotiate proposals with customers and close work
- Manage SPD and construction projects from kickoff through completion
- Collaborate with operations, service technicians, and office staff on pricing, scheduling, and execution
- Maintain strong relationships with customers, installers, and internal teams
- Monitor industry trends, competitors, and customer needs
- Support hiring, onboarding, and retention of trades personnel
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and profitability
- Ensure safety standards and company values are upheld at all times
- Assist with system implementations and other operational initiatives
- Support team workload during peak periods as needed
- Strong, hands‑on knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems and mechanical trades
- Experience designing, engineering, and estimating HVAC and plumbing projects
- Proven ability to present and sell technical solutions to customers
- Solid understanding of pricing structures, gross margins, and proposal development
- Project management experience within service, construction, or special projects
- Strong communication skills with customers, technicians, and leadership
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments
- Customer satisfaction and repeat business
- Growth and profitability of SPD revenues
- Accuracy and timeliness of estimates and proposals
- Achievement of SPD sales and operational goals
- Cross‑functional collaboration and teamwork
- Contribution to technician retention and recruitment
