Sunrise Transportation is a rapidly growing, private equity-backed transportation company and is currently hiring a Mechanic at Relia location in Stratford, CT with experience working on gasoline and/or diesel engines. The company has grown rapidly through both organic expansion and the acquisition of other student transportation companies. HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

We are not only looking for amazing team members who will help us in our mission to move our children forward, but also individuals who want to move their careers forward. We are currently looking for a Mechanic who will work under the direction of the Service Manager, performing preventative maintenance, safety inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.

What we’ll trust you with:
  • Perform preventative inspections and general maintenance, including fluid changes, brakes, and tires.
  • Prepare vehicles for IDOT inspections.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair engines and engine components.
  • Inspect and maintain bus safety systems, including 8-way lighting, stop arms, and crosswalk systems.
  • Maintain camera and GPS systems.
  • Maintain and process work orders.
  • Assist with maintaining a safe, reliable, and road-ready fleet.
What matters most for this role:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands or arms, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell.
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate noise.
  • May be exposed to water, fumes, chemicals, and other materials commonly found in a maintenance environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience with maintenance software programs or related systems is a plus.
  • Wheelchair lift or hydraulic systems experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug test.
Competencies:
  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
  • One or more years of experience with engine diagnostics and general automotive maintenance.
  • Experience working with school bus bodies is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail.
