Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Reports To: Dr. Archana Kumari, PhD, Assistant Professor

SUMMARY: The Lab is seeking a Research Technician responsible for providing research support and technical assistance to the lab. This role will participate in planned research projects by performing research protocols and experimental procedures independently. The position also offers the opportunity to work on an independent project and contribute to publications. The lab studies tongue and taste alterations due to various insults including drug treatments, using microscopy, histology, immunohistochemistry, genetic tools, and flow cytometry in mouse models to understand the gustatory organ.

This is a grant‑funded position.

  • Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed.
  • Assists with planning specific research protocols and procedures.
  • Orders and organizes lab supplies.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of laboratory facilities, equipment, and instruments.
  • Maintains accurate records of experimentation and research.
  • Reviews selected literature relevant to research activities.
  • Prepares reports, documents, and databases.
  • Helps maintain records, files, and databases.
  • Understands and adheres to Rowan‑Virtua SOM compliance standards as outlined in Rowan’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a life science discipline. Prior laboratory and animal‑handling experience is preferred but not required; the successful candidate will receive training in essential techniques, including animal treatment techniques. The position requires the ability to work independently, follow established protocols, and implement instructions from the PI as needed. Candidates must be comfortable working with live animals and with animal tissues or specimens.

This is a full‑time, temporary grant‑funded position, working 35 hours a week. Duration of employment is between 1–3 years, or until funding ends.

  • The starting rate is $21.24 per hour. Depending on experience, candidate may be hired at the job rate of $21.88 to start.
