About the Opportunity
Reed Education are working with a school on the Orkney Islands that is seeking to appoint experienced Teachers to support children and young people aged 10-18 (P6 - S6) with a range of complex social, emotional, and additional support needs.
Many of the pupils express themselves through dysregulation, and teachers must be confident working within a nurturing, structured environment that prioritises relationships, consistency, and trauma-informed practice.
This is an exciting chance to help shape a new provision that will re-engage learners who have been out of school and require a high level of tailored support.
About the Role
Staff will work alongside existing school staff to:
- Create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment for small groups or one-to-one teaching
- Support children who have not been in school for extended periods
- Enable pupils to re-engage in learning and work toward national curriculum standards
- Deliver high-quality, personalised teaching for a range of additional support needs
- Contribute to the development of a brand-new educational provision on the island
Requirements
All applicants must have:
- GTCS Registration (mandatory)
- Full PVG membership
- At least 2 years' teaching experience
- Experience supporting children with ASN / SEN, including social, emotional, or behavioural needs
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and nurture principles (desirable)
- Experience with neurodiversity (desirable)
Applications from teachers with strong behaviour support or SEN backgrounds are encouraged.
Contract & Working Arrangements
- Initial contract: 19 weeks, with the potential to extend
- Required from: End of February - July 2026 (including a 2-week Easter break)
- Teachers must be based in Orkney during term time
- Travel to and from the Orkney Islands at the beginning and end of the assignment will be covered
- Teachers are needed as soon as possible
