Summary

The EHS Specialist will be part of a team responsible for overseeing required trainings, inspections, plan implementation, monitoring, reporting and will act as a subject matter expert for applicable regulations, regulatory interpretations, and permit requirements that are necessary for operations. This position works with all levels within the organization and alerts leadership teams on corrective actions and process improvements related to environmental, health, and safety hazards.

Responsibilities
  • Directs the development, implementation, and maintenance of the EHS programs, activities, and projects to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, safety of associates, and HDI corporate requirements.
  • Ensures and maintains all necessary environmental permits for regulatory compliance.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for overseeing facilities for compliance with DOT, EPA, NFPA, and OSHA regulations and interpretations.
  • Create or modify training resources for new and changing regulations or corporate requirements.
  • Acts as an Emergency Coordinator and/or is part of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Responsible for on‑call and after‑hour compliance and safety related needs.
  • Performs and oversees all responsibilities of the EHS manager and/or Specialist.
  • Compiles, prepares, and submits facility required regulatory reports.
  • Performs internal audits to verify compliance with requirements and expectations; is the point of contact for external audits and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the completion of inspections, which include weekly Gemba walk inspections, waste inspections, environmental compliance inspections, and corporate compliance inspections according to Heroux‑Devtek corporate requirements.
  • Oversees the management of the document control records related to EHS documents.
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, near misses, related to EHS events to determine root cause and provide recommendations for improvements and corrective actions.
  • Ensures that EHS incident investigations and reports are prepared in a timely manner with an emphasis on identifying root causes and ensuring effective closure of corrective actions.
  • Track and control inventory of safety equipment and PPE on site to ensure that proper resources are available when needed.
  • Assume end‑to‑end responsibility for environmental service contracts and collection of residual materials including regulated RCRA hazardous waste.
