A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Senior Barista, you are an integral member of the team at the heart of our Cafés. You have mastered key barista behaviors and skills, genuinely welcoming customers to discover and taste our curated offerings. You create a hospitable place for customers to relax, enjoy our bookstores, and foster a sense of community.

You help new Baristas learn so they can provide a knowledgeable and great experience for our customers.

• Use varied technology: registers, computers, tablets, programs, and troubleshoot routine issues.
• Maintain the counter and floor retail fixtures through effective merchandising and visual presentation.
• Utilize strong merchandising skill to care for a full and vibrant bake case.
• Run an efficient register while taking orders competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
• Support receiving and unpacking of deliveries, following FIFO practices.
• Make suggestions on food and beverage products to enhance customer experience.
• Master drink making and food preparation, following approved recipes and spec sheets.
• Keep Café clean and tidy through daily and weekly cleaning tasks.
• Support the book floor team when needed.
• Understand loss prevention procedures and use de‑escalation techniques.

• Use café knowledge of beverages, bakery, and savory items to create an enjoyable dining experience.
• Maintain visual presentation using knowledge of various café retail offerings.
• Practice maintaining and presenting the bake case attractively.
• Educate baristas on making beverages properly.
• Use café training tools appropriately.
• Talk comfortably about key sales objectives and company initiatives.
• Make effective food and beverage customizations/recommendations to customers.
• Manage backstock effectively and support proper ordering.
• Maintain safety, hygiene, sanitation guidelines and procedures.

All this work requires physical activity which includes prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting and a lot of walking. You may work in other stores if needed, collaboratively supporting the wider cluster.
