Job Purpose
PHINIA Year-in-Industry placement as a Development Engineer with the Product Engineering team based in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. Open to undergraduates only and must have completed a minimum of 1year in a degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
Key Responsibilities
POSITION OVERVIEW
Working within the Product Engineering department which is heavily involved in product specification, design and validation.
Role & Responsibilities
- To provide technical support for commercial vehicle fuel injectors for common rail technology through practical and theoretical support of engineering processes and systems including, hydraulics, manufacturing processes etc.
- Development of test equipment and instrumentation.
- Run and develop performance test procedures.
- Inspection of components from warranty, customer testing or internal testing.
- Interpretation of test data, synthesis of results & reporting
- Problem solving through methodical approach and innovative techniques.
- Ensure adherence to quality control standards and process documentation.
- Contribute towards continuous improvement.
- Ensure a safe working environment with full compliance to relevant legislation.
- Completed min 1yr in a degree level qualification (or equivalent diploma/experience) in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Self-motivated and have a strong and flexible attitude towards work, good attention to detail, good understanding of engineering fundamentals, good response to timescale pressure, good communication skills.
- Software experience in Microsoft Office essential, with analysis software (e.g. Matlab) or programming (e.g. VBA) an advantage
- Awareness of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- A genuine interest and enjoyment in engineering and resolving technical problems.
- Practical experience of mechanical systems an advantage.
- Able to demonstrate excellent presentation, communication and inter-personal skills (including the ability to work in a close-knit team).
- Willingness to train and develop skills.
- Language skills (German, French, Chinese) an advantage but not essential.
- Self-motivated and have a strong and flexible attitude towards work
- Ability to stay calm in high stress situations
- Ability to communicate at all levels

- Ability to work under pressure and to deadline when required
- The ability to prioritise and organise own workload
