Sturbridge Veterinary Hospital is Hiring a Veterinary Technician!

  • Role: Lead Surgery Veterinary Technician
  • Status: Full-time
  • Salary: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (1-hour unpaid lunch)
    Optional schedule:
    Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM for 40 hours

Are you an experienced veterinary technician looking to take the next step in your career? Sturbridge Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Lead Surgery Technician to help elevate our surgical department and train our team to the highest level of excellence.

We are rebuilding our hospital to an even higher standard of care than ever before and we’re looking for a bold, skilled, and compassionate leader to help us get there.

About the Role:

The Lead Surgery Technician will oversee surgical protocols, staff training, and assist in developing advanced technical skills across the team. The ideal candidate will take pride in mentorship, precision, and teamwork, helping our doctors and technicians perform at their best while ensuring every patient receives elite-quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and train technicians in catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, dental procedures, soft tissue surgeries, elective procedures, and mass removals
  • Assist in developing and refining surgical protocols
  • Perform blood draws and operate in-house laboratory machines
  • Ensure proper restraint and safe animal handling
  • Maintain the weekly controlled substance logbook with accuracy and compliance
  • Take in rooms and conduct technician appointments on Thursdays
  • Support hospital flow and assist in general practice and urgent care as needed
  • Full‑time: 36 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8 AM–6 PM
  • Optional: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 AM–6 PM
  • 1‑hour unpaid lunch to ensure proper rest and recovery time

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Confident in surgical and anesthesia responsibilities
  • CPR certified (RECOVER certification preferred)
  • Team‑oriented leader who empowers others through guidance, patience, and collaboration
  • Strong communication and teaching skills
