Salary: $20.00 - $27.00 per hour
Responsibilities- Assist the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients of the center.
- Sterilize, prepare and manage inventory of dental instruments and supplies.
- Complete medical consults as directed by the dentist; fax to patients’ PCP and follow clinic policies; note in chart, scan, and follow up as needed.
- Transcribe all chart notes accurately into the patient chart for each visit, properly initial notes, and assign the correct provider for each walk-out.
- Assist patients in resolving minor difficulties, answer questions, and provide directions as authorized by the dentist or dental hygienist.
- Serve as the dentist's or dental hygienist's chair-side assistant and prepare operatory for patient treatment per department protocols.
- Capture diagnostic digital radiographs with proper labeling (root apices, no overlap).
- Perform independent procedures as delegated by the dentist in accordance with state regulations and department directives.
- Maintain dental department equipment and areas per manufacturer directions, department directives, and center policies (infection control, exposure control, and safety).
- Monitor patient flow and ensure patient records and documents are properly completed and filed.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and post-operative care.
- Maintain compliance with PHI and HIPAA requirements.
- Handle telephone calls related to professional matters, clinic business, and patient care of the dental department.
- Assist with various clinical and administrative functions as appropriate and time permitting.
- Ensure sterility of reusable dental instruments and equipment; dispose of contaminated materials per directives and regulations.
- Comply with the center’s Exposure Control Plan and use of PPE and universal precautions.
- Participate in health promotion/disease prevention activities on-site and off-site as required.
- Travel as necessary to meet operational needs and perform other related tasks as directed by a supervisor.
- Personally comply with applicable federal, state, local, and center rules and protocols related to dental care, safety, and confidentiality.
- Work in a collegial manner and mentor students; participate actively in staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Completion of an accredited course in dental assisting or current CDA (Certified Dental Assistant).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to meet deadlines and protocols.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English;
Spanish-speaking skills preferred. - Must be qualified in basic life support techniques/CPR.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
