Job Summary
Core Group Resources is hiring an experienced Structural Fitting & Welding Foreman to lead fabrication and welding crews in a shipyard environment. You'll run daily production for structural fitters and welders and make sure the work is done safely, on schedule, and to shipyard drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
This role suits a hands‑on fitter and welder who has already led crews in shipbuilding, marine, fabrication, or heavy industrial work and wants to keep doing so.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct structural fitters and welders on shipyard fabrication and installation work.
- Plan daily manpower, crew assignments, and production activities, and adjust as needed to stay on schedule.
- Read and interpret ship drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication plans.
- Oversee structural fit-up, alignment, tack welding, and final welding.
- Inspect fit-up, dimensions, alignment, and workmanship before work moves to the next stage.
- Make sure all work meets approved drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with Welding, QA/QC, Engineering, Safety, and other shipyard departments.
- Identify and resolve fitting, welding, material, and production issues.
- Enforce OSHA and shipyard safety requirements, run toolbox talks, and communicate daily assignments.
- Track crew productivity, hours, material usage, and progress.
- Train and coach crew members, and keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, structural fabrication, heavy industrial construction, or a similar environment.
- Previous experience as a Foreman, Leadman, Supervisor, or Crew Lead, including supervising multiple employees and coordinating daily production.
- Strong hands‑on background in both structural fitting and welding.
- Ability to read blueprints, ship drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication plans.
- Clear communication with crews, management, QA/QC, and other trades.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding shipyard environment, including standing, walking, climbing, and bending for extended periods.
Preferred Requirements
- DOD, naval, or government shipyard experience, whether in new construction or repair. This is highly preferred.
- FCAW and SMAW welding experience.
- Experience working from ship construction drawings and welding procedures alongside QA/QC and welding inspectors.
- OSHA or shipyard safety training.
