Since our inception in 1986, the Door County Land Trust has worked to preserve, maintain, and enhance lands that contribute significantly to the scenic beauty, open space, and ecological integrity of northeast Wisconsin. Join our team as a Seasonal Restoration Assistant and play a vital role in protecting and enhancing local ecosystems. You will execute critical field activities related to the management and restoration of Land Trust properties. This hands‑on opportunity includes focused work on invasive species management, grassland restoration projects, and ensuring compliance with important grant‑funded restoration requirements.

The key role includes the successful execution of hands‑on ecological restoration activities on managed DCLT lands. This work comprises approximately 90% field effort and requires physical labor. The remaining 10% is allocated for logistics, maintenance, and administrative support.

• Hands‑on restoration tasks in the field, primarily focusing on invasive species removal (manual, mechanical, and chemical treatment) and native habitat enhancement.
• Implement approved ecological restoration plans, including tasks related to grassland establishment.
• Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including chainsaws, brush cutters, and tools, and potentially utility vehicles (UTVs).
• Accurately collect, record, and organize field data, including GPS points, photo documentation, and progress reports related to specific grant deliverables and Land Trust goals.

• Minimum qualification of a high school diploma and 1 year’s training in a science‑related field or related experience in land management, landscaping, or farming.
• A bachelor’s degree or technical degree from an accredited training institute, college, or university in a natural resource‑related field is preferred.

• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license or out‑of‑state license required. Occasional personal vehicle use may be required (mileage will be reimbursed).
• English language skills required. All applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the time they apply.

Current applicator certifications from the State of Wisconsin for “Aquatic and Mosquito” and “Right‑of‑Way and Natural Areas” or the ability to obtain within 30 days of start date (cost will be reimbursed).

• Experience operating property‑management equipment such as mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, tractors, power tools, trailering, etc. is preferred.
• Proficiency in collecting field data using GPS mobile applications (such as ArcGIS Field Maps) and exporting data for reporting.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in the field when facing unexpected challenges (e.g., equipment failure, weather changes).
