Main Function: Assist with quality assurance (QA) inspection work and the coordination of support services with Project Teams to ensure adherence to project plans, specifications and instructions related to quantity, quality control (QC), methods and workmanship.

Characteristic Duties
  • Assist with performing quality assurance (QA) inspections of work carried out by private contractors and municipal work forces.
  • Assist with the coordination of support services on various projects to ensure consistent documentation and adherence to project plans, specifications and instructions as to quantity, quality control (QC), methods and workmanship in accordance with project plans, specifications and quality management plans.
  • Assist with the inspection and monitoring of QC and QA tests on grading work, paving work, sewer installation, watermain installation, sidewalk construction, structural work and other items incidental to municipal construction projects.
  • Assist with the monitoring of quality and quantity of delivered materials and ensure supporting documentation is collected.
  • Assist with the monitoring and performance of checks on layouts, alignment and grades of construction work.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of various reports and documentation (e.g. instruction forms, progress reports, project change requests, records of events as set out in daily diaries, contractor performance reports, up-to-date daily reports of completed work and final project records), ensuring quality data and standards are maintained.
  • Assist with documenting and informing Project Teams of any deviations or non‑compliances to contract specifications and project plans.
  • Assist with the inspection of work sites during job progress and upon completion to ensure work has been performed according to contract specifications with minimum inconvenience to the general public.
  • Check summaries of materials delivered to sites to ensure supporting documentation is included (i.e. weigh tickets).
  • Monitor quality and quantity of delivered materials and ensure supporting documentation is collected.
  • Perform basic inspections on less complex projects as they progress and upon completion to ensure work has been performed according to project plans and contract specifications with minimum inconvenience to the general public under the oversight of a Construction Services Co‑ordinator.
  • Assist with investigating, reporting and responding to public complaints or enquiries pertaining to construction activity and project work; consult with Project Team and implement corrective action, as required.
  • Assist with monitoring and reviewing the quality of red‑line drawings, as‑built drawings and contract documentation provided by contractors for compliance with contract specifications.
  • Assist with performance of QA checks on surveys to ensure adherence to lines and grades defined by project plans for the construction of roads, sewers, sidewalks, etc.
  • Assist in the coordination with contractors and Project Teams to identify and initiate documentation for potential changes to scope, schedule or cost and process for approval prior to execution.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Community College Diploma with Canadian accreditation as an Engineering Technician.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists is an asset.
  • Over one (1) year up to and including two and one‑half (2½) years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability related to computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g. file maintenance, word processing, spreadsheet applications, information input and retrieval, etc.).
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, related regulations and best practices within area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of contract language, drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal and written skills an asset.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.
