Pioneer Construction Inc. is seeking hardworking and safety-focused individual to join our team as a Health & Safety Coordinator based in Sudbury, Ontario.
The Health and Safety Coordinator will assist with the development, maintenance, and review of a comprehensive occupational health and safety program. They will also ensure awareness of and compliance with company standards, requirements, policies and procedures to minimize risks and improve health and safety performance.
- Conduct regular workplace/site inspection including the ability to monitor and recommend corrective action.
- Collaborate with Managers and Supervisors to monitor compliance and identify safety issues.
- Promote and maintain a strong culture of health and safety across the company through health and safety programs and initiatives.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of health and safety policies and procedures and ensure that they reflect best practices and current policies / regulations.
- Provide awareness to workers, supervisors, managers about regulatory requirements including company health and safety standards, and industry and mining regulations.
- Execute and/or coordinate internal inspections, internal audits, and investigations and initiate and realize corrective actions in case of deviations.
- Deliver safety orientation and training for all new and existing employees.
- Maintain records of all health and safety-related training.
- With the support of management when required, conduct hazard assessments and risk assessments on equipment and products.
- Complete inspection forms and ensure proper and accurate recording of health and safety documentation.
- Assist Human Resources department with workplace investigations.
- Attend Health and Safety and project site meetings and training sessions.
- Assist with the maintenance of SDS Information and perform follow-ups on jobsite inspection sheets.
- Make recommendations on personal protective equipment and oversee approved safety supplies list.
- Participate in various projects as they relate to the health and safety function of the company.
- Follow all company, client, and regulatory health and safety policies, procedures, and standards
- Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
- Adhere to established safety and emergency procedures and report hazards or incidents promptly
- Perform physically demanding work including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, crouching, climbing, crawling, repetitive reaching, and extended periods of standing throughout the workday
- Travel to job sites across Northern Ontario, including occasional out-of-town assignments with overnight stays
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather
- Work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required to meet operational and project demands
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Health and Safety professional within the construction, mining, or aggregate industries
- Relevant post-secondary training in Occupational Health and Safety or a combination of education and experience that is determined to be equivalent
- Certified National Construction Safety Officer (NSCO), or actively working toward designation with the majority of certification requirements already completed
- Possession of a valid G License
- Standard First Aid, CPR and AED Certification
- Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
