The Opportunity

Shape Something Different – Intermediate Mine Waste Engineer (Sudbury or North Bay, ON)

This is your chance to make an impact as an Intermediate Mine Waste Engineer supporting mining clients in Northern Ontario. In this role, you’ll help design and steward safe, sustainable mine waste facilities—tailings storage facilities and waste rock dumps—that protect people, the environment, and surrounding communities. You’ll join a team that thrives on curiosity, connection, and collaboration, working on projects that shape the future of mining in the Sudbury and North Bay regions and beyond.

Your

Impact
  • Design and oversee the construction of mine waste facilities, including tailings storage facilities and waste rock dumps.
  • Conduct geotechnical and environmental assessments to support safe and sustainable mine waste operations.
  • Develop and implement mine waste management plans that meet regulatory, environmental, and client requirements.
  • Perform stability and seepage analyses to support the integrity and performance of tailings dams and related structures.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the performance of mine waste systems, recommending improvements where needed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Prepare clear, data-driven technical reports, drawings, and documentation for clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, environmental scientists, water resources engineers, and other specialists.
  • Provide technical support during project planning, design, construction, operation, and closure phases for mine waste facilities.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining, or related engineering discipline; a Master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Approximately 5–7 years of experience in mine waste management, geotechnical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or eligibility for registration, in Ontario.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices, including experience with tailings dam design and management.
  • Proficiency with relevant analysis and modelling software such as Geo Studio (e.g., SLOPE/W, SEEP/W) and related tools.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, permitting processes, and applicable guidelines for mine waste facilities.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams and contributing to project management activities (scope, schedule, budgets, and deliverables).
  • Living in, or willing to relocate to, the Sudbury or North Bay area to support local and regional projects.
