Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking an Intermediate CAD Designer - Highways and Roads, based in our Sudbury, ON, Canada office. This position is for a newly created position. This is a full-time role expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and draft highway rehabilitation projects using 2D AutoCAD software.
  • Oversee AutoCAD work for multiple projects, ensuring adherence to standards and high-quality output.
  • Mentor, coach, and train junior staff, providing ongoing support and guidance for junior staff.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings, including plans, profiles, cross-sections, geometrics, drainage, utilities, signing, pavement markings, detours, and construction staging.
  • Develop drawings based on engineering reports, detailed notes, and client specifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with engineering calculations and maintain project documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers and design teams to understand project requirements and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, environmental planners, technologists, subconsultants and administrative staff.
  • Participate in meetings with internal staff, subconsultants, and clients, documenting decisions and following up on action items.
  • Monitor project plans and schedules.
  • Adhere to industry design standards and drafting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiencies.
  • Contribute to technical reports and studies.
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing professional growth.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have completed a Civil Engineering Technician or Technology Diploma + 2 years of related experience OR demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in highway design.
  • Experience using AutoCAD software.
  • Effective communication skills with team members, subconsultants, and clients.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proactive and reliable, with a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, coupled with strong technical and organizational skills, ensuring precision and efficiency in all tasks.
  • Knowledge of TAC, OTM, and MTO design procedures and standards.
  • Experience with MTO highway design and standards is an asset.
  • Experience with drainage design and standards including surface and storm sewer design is an asset.
  • Experience with Auto Cad Civil3D, Microstation, Open Roads Designer, or InRoads software is an asset.
  • Field and construction inspection experience is an asset.
  • OACETT Certification (C.Tech or C.E.T.) is an asset.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $60,000.00 - $90,000.00.
