Mechanical Layout Designer

Job Description

As a Mechanical Layout Designer at WSP, you will design and optimize layout arrangements for heavy industrial projects across the subsector. You will collaborate across teams, prepare 3D models, review drawings, develop process diagrams and site plans, and provide design calculations, trade‑off studies and reports.

• Prepare 3D models and layout general arrangements for existing plant upgrades and new facilities
• Review vendor drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs prior to fabrication
• Prepare design calculations and design briefs
• Conduct trade‑off studies and prepare reports
• Participate in field engineering assignments
• Prepare all design work related to layout general arrangements and equipment model development
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure timely and accurate flow of design information while maintaining departmental and client standards
• Maintain and revise equipment libraries, department standards, and procedures

• College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent
• 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design with a focus on layout design for heavy industrial and/or mining projects
• Strong understanding of mechanical equipment installation requirements in the field
• Must have consulting experience
• Proven experience with Plant3D, Revit, Micro Station, Solid Edge, and Smart Plant
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• French language skills (written and verbal) an asset
• Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to perform design engineering
• Strong critical thinking skills and an ability to problem‑solve effectively

BC, AB, SK, NWT & NU: $77,400 – $102,500
MB & ON: $70,600 – $97,200
Atlantic Provinces & QC: $69,900 – $92,900
