Mining Technical Director, Autonomous Operations
Summary
The Mining Technical Director for Autonomous Operations will report to the Director of Autonomous Operations, Americas and be responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of autonomous operations within the focused industries of mining or specific discipline areas. The role includes aligning strategic direction for the business, pursuing and winning work, managing resources, and building regional multi‑discipline, appropriately skilled delivery teams to drive profit and operational excellence.
The position covers Canada, the US and LATAM.
- Work with Regional leadership and Digital COE to adopt and deploy vision and strategy in key markets.
- Manage a team with a focus on profit growth targets, talent development, and capability growth.
- Drive customer and market focus towards increased sales with growth targets.
- Collaborate and develop integrated offerings with Worley Consulting.
- Provide regional reporting to support pipeline growth and operational performance.
- Deliver short‑to‑mid‑term complex digital customer engagements, typically of multiple weeks duration, that may involve identification of user requirements, solutioning, implementation, change management, value realization and potential involvement of other digital practices.
- Lead and manage teams of varying size, including full‑time employees, contractors, and global work‑share teams.
- Close deals as a result of a customer engagement, navigating the client decision‑making process and overseeing proposals and contracts.
- Accountable for specific success metrics: sales targets, compliance, and profit goals; propose alternative commercial models to improve financial position.
- Assist with sales pursuits: attend meetings, respond to RFPs, conduct short engagements to frame client problems, and develop relationships.
- Strive for continuous improvement and digitally enable practice operations.
- Attract, retain and develop talent.
- Industry experience with process or mine automation as an owner, vendor, or system integrator in mining is required.
- Experience with process automation (DCS / SCADA / PLC) of mining and/or processing plant infrastructure and one or more of the following:
- AHS/mobile fleet expertise
- iROC engineering/implementation
- Underground engineering experience
- Program/Project management experience, focusing on performance improvement and operations, is strongly preferred.
- Facilitating workshops, client discovery meetings, and strategic advisory/consulting is key to business development.
- Driven, high energy, presence/gravitas, intelligence, practical, people‑person.
- Proven ability to attract, retain and develop talent.
- Demonstrable experience with targeting and selling through networking.
- Able to interact and influence at all client organization levels, including Executives and Staff.
- Able to think outside the box; innovative, flexible and decisive.
- Keeps informed on ongoing technological developments and knows when they are ready for scale.
- Must have 10+ years of experience delivering projects involving advanced automation technologies and integrating multi‑technology solutions.
- Experience running a P&L is ideal; strong understanding of P&L fundamentals is sufficient.
- Willing to travel 25‑30% on average.
- Excellent analytical, research, communication, listening, and business/commercial acumen.
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Systems, Mechanical, or Chemical). Must be eligible to obtain a P.Eng. or P.E. license where the role is based.
- MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is CA $202,925 to CA $298,419.
Variation in salary is determined by qualifications, experience, location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions.
