Looking to apply your engineering expertise to large-scale underground mining systems that directly impact safety, productivity, and operational performance? Our client is seeking a Mines Systems Engineer to join their team in Sudbury, Ontario. This role is responsible for the design, optimization, and implementation of mine ventilation systems, while also serving as a technical resource for critical underground infrastructure including fill delivery, compressed air, water distribution, and dewatering systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mining engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading major system projects, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across multiple operations.

Our client is a large-scale underground mining joint venture in the Sudbury Basin focused on the development of critical mineral resources. This is a contract position – scheduled until mid 2027.

  • About the Role:

    Reporting to the Mines Engineering Superintendent, the Mines Systems Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering support for mine ventilation and underground utility systems across multiple mining operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, evaluating, and improving systems that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective production.

    Ventilation Systems

  • Provide technical expertise and support for mine ventilation planning, design, and optimization.
  • Develop ventilation designs for mine expansions, new mining zones, and major infrastructure projects.
  • Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Conduct audits and reviews to ensure ventilation systems meet engineering standards and operational requirements.
  • Support site teams through technical guidance, training, and best-practice development.
  • Lead or contribute to major ventilation capital projects and feasibility studies.
  • Mine Systems Engineering

  • Provide engineering support for underground fill distribution, compressed air, water management, and dewatering systems.
  • Develop and review system designs to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with site engineering and operations teams to implement system improvements.
  • Project & Technical Leadership

  • Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities across mining operations.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to support successful project execution.
  • Utilize engineering software and modelling tools to support technical decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or related Engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Several years of underground mining engineering experience, preferably with a focus on mine ventilation.
  • Strong understanding of underground ventilation systems and associated modelling software.
  • Experience with underground utility systems including compressed air, water distribution, pumping, and dewatering systems is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven project management and technical leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities across several operations.
