Summary

Project Engineer to join our team on a contract basis, based in Sudbury, ON . The Project Engineer is responsible for the coordination and delivery of all engineering services required for the Project. This includes a functional support role to the construction / operations team on the Project. The Project Engineer will ensure that engineering scope (drawings), specifications, bill of materials, quality control and general engineering coordination are available when required, in order to complete all aspects of the project on time, to a high quality and within budget.

The scope is based upon the Project's Work Breakdown Structures, with the Project Engineer developing and executing packages on site (mechanical, structural & civil, electrical & instrumentation, mining disciplines). The Project Engineer has a direct responsibility for Scope of Work generation, with the package execution including the coordination and oversight of off-site fabrication activities, active quality management, and construction execution support.

This will include interface with the engineering team, procurement team and construction team (self‑performance and contracted scope). The Project Engineer is the gate keeper for change management and will also be involved with change derived from engineering and in‑field scope, working alongside the project services team.

Responsibilities
  • Engage the Operations team on conceptual designs or significant changes that are in progress.
  • Support the construction / operational team for surface and underground work, overseeing engineering design progression and coordinating the procurement of all scope items to ensure on‑site availability and quality control alignment.
  • Involvement is required throughout the package lifecycle, in a cradle‑to‑grave arrangement.
  • Recommend design or method improvements to enhance safety and productivity through engineering interface meetings and drawing reviews.
  • Work with design engineers in the corporate offices, ensuring construction drawings are received on time and revising them as required.
  • Ensure measures are in place to remedy any defects or deficiencies in engineering design.
  • Maintain, at site, a complete set of standards, specifications, and drawings to ensure work meets industry and project standards.
  • Develop work packages and coordinate with procurement for the tender‑award process, generating SOWs and procurement packages.
  • Manage packages to achieve high‑quality work that meets the project’s budget and schedule, including vendor/contractor interface management.
  • Provide schedule updates and ensure packages are on time.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager/Project Superintendent to ensure all execution requirements are available and supported timely.
  • Coordinate multi‑discipline efforts for preparation, evaluation, and recommendation of sub‑contract packages, including SOW and tender schedule preparation.
  • Oversee change management and provide breakdowns of commercial financial changes for management approval.
  • Generate construction work packages, ensuring alignment with the project team and clear scope definition.
  • Support risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) and coordinate with the operational/construction team on safe, high‑quality methodologies.
  • Provide technical support during construction/operations, helping develop efficient and safe working procedures.
  • Support quality and commissioning phases of the package.
  • Active role in site safety management.
  • Provide input to weekly and monthly reports as required.
  • Undertake personal development activities annually.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Be available to work overtime hours as required by the project.
