Duties and Accountabilities
Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, the incumbent is accountable for designing, implementing, and monitoring ground control systems and programs to ensure ground stability at the mines, new projects, and legacy sites. A strong relationship must be maintained with Mine/Geology Directors, Site Chief Engineers/Geologists, Site Rehabilitation Specialists, Mine Development Project Managers for overall program direction, technical excellence, and Division consistency.
Requirements
Undergraduate degree in mining, civil or geotechnical engineering with a master’s degree in rock mechanics
Minimum 12 years’ experience in an industrial, process-based environment with at least 6 years in a specialized field
Significant practical experience in deep underground mining with rock bursting conditions
Good communication and mentoring skills with operational credibility to lead site geotechnical teams
Expected to be on call on a regular rotation within the Sudbury Ground Control Group
