Job Description

About the Role:

Are you a master multitasker who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Manitoulin Transport is seeking a Bilingual Dispatcher to join our Central Dispatch operations team. In this critical role, you will be the heartbeat of our freight movement, coordinating logistics across our network to ensure maximum efficiency, cost-effective freight movement, service standards, and on-time performance. This is a fast-paced, high-energy, operational role where no two days look the same.

Because our network runs 24/7, you’ll need the flexibility to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Central Dispatch in executing and coordinating freight movement across the network to service terminals efficiently.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for drivers, consistently answering phones to provide hook-up information, departure times, delay updates, and operational support.
  • Partner with terminal dock staff and managers to plan trips and determine the most efficient and cost-effective freight movement.
  • Handle electronic shipment billing, manifest trailers, and strip freight from manifests as required.
  • Maintain and update multiple shared Google spreadsheets.
  • Coordinate and book hotel rooms for drivers and issue purchase orders as required.
  • Track shipments and assist customers after hours when Customer Service is closed.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in French and English (required).
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to comfortably navigate and switch between multiple digital systems.
  • Detail-oriented with strong multitasking and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Able to work under pressure in a high-call-volume environment.
  • Comfortable spending the majority of the shift on the phone.

Asset Qualifications (Not Required):

  • Familiarity with the Manitoulin network and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations.
  • Knowledge of Hours of Service legislation.
