At an important time in the continued development of this work, NOSM University is seeking its next Vice-President, Research & Graduate Studies (RGS) .
Reporting to the President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean & CEO and serving as a member of the Executive Group, the VP, Research & Graduate Studies is the University’s senior academic leader responsible for the strategic direction, oversight, and continuous improvement of research and graduate studies. The VP leads the development and implementation of a five-year strategic plan for RGS and provides trusted advice to the President on research and graduate education.
With a dynamic and wide-ranging portfolio, the VP oversees the Research & Graduate Studies Office, Health Sciences Library, Data Stewardship Office, research centres, graduate programs, and relevant Assistant Deans, Directors, Research Chairs, and staff. In collaboration with researchers, academic leaders, funding agencies, governments, research institutions, hospitals, health-system organizations, and community partners, the VP builds research networks that address priority health needs across Northern Ontario.
With an eye to sustainable scholarly impact, the VP leads the development of current and future graduate programs, strengthens responsible research administration, governance, and compliance, advances an integrated approach to data stewardship, and champions the recruitment, support, and retention of researchers and early-career scholars. Externally, the VP represents NOSM University at regional, provincial, national, and international tables, strengthening partnerships and advancing the University’s research profile and impact.
As an ideal candidate, you are an experienced research and academic administrative leader with a record of leading significant research impact and facilitating scholarly achievement. You are drawn to NOSM University’s unique positioning in the Canadian education landscape and inspired by the institution’s commitments to health equity and social accountability.
You bring a broad appreciation for different forms of health research, with the credibility to work effectively across clinical and non-clinical faculty, and demonstrated experience with significant research initiatives, national funding bodies, and the Canadian research funding and policy environment. Your experience as an administrative leader in research and graduate studies has helped home your ability to translate strategy into clear priorities, actionable plans, and measurable outcomes.
A collaborative and inclusive leader, team builder, and resource steward, you are skilled at and passionate about supporting the development and growth of graduate programs and strengthening the structures that enable researchers to succeed.
