Reporting to the Manager of Trades, the Locksmith is responsible for the management, design, installation, and maintenance of the University’s comprehensive lock and electronic access control systems across all campus facilities. This includes oversight of a complex, hierarchical key and core system and a large-scale card access control system serving faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent ensures the security, integrity, and functionality of all mechanical and electronic access systems and related hardware, and administers the associated operating software and databases to maintain campus-wide access control standards.

• Administer and manage the hierarchical university key and core system across all academic, administrative, and residential buildings.
• Manage and maintain the university-wide electronic card access system, including system programming, hardware maintenance, and software database administration (e.g., Honeywell EBI, Keystone).
• Assign, modify, and revoke card access rights for all faculty, staff, and students, ensuring compliance with university access control policies.
• Design and implement new access control applications and hardware configurations to meet security and operational needs.
• Install, maintain, and repair mechanical and electronic locks, door hardware, and hydraulic door operators.
• Respond to emergency lock, door, and card access system issues; provide first response and technical troubleshooting for access and elevator-related service calls.
• Develop and maintain system documentation, key control records, and database accuracy.
• Coordinate with Campus Security, IT, and Facilities Management to ensure integrated security and access strategies.
• Provide technical guidance and training to colleagues and contractors regarding access control standards and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Three (3) years post-secondary education in locksmithing, electronics, security systems, or a related technical field.
• Advanced certification or training in electronic access control or security systems.
• Valid Ontario Drivers’(G) License with a good driving record
• Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in locksmithing and electronic access control systems in an institutional or multi-building environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing large-scale key and card access systems.
• Expert knowledge of complex hierarchical key and core systems and related database management.
• In-depth knowledge of electronic access control software, including programming, system integration, and user rights management.
• Working knowledge of Honeywell EBI and Keystone database systems or comparable platforms.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electronic locking devices, door operators, and security hardware.
• Ability to interpret architectural and electrical drawings related to door hardware and access systems.
• Knowledge of relevant codes, safety standards, and best practices in physical security and access control.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage sensitive security information.
• Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is an asset.

The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
