Position: Youth In Policing (YIPI) Summer Student- 2026

YOUTH IN POLICING (YIPI) - SUMMER STUDENT

40 hours / week
Post Secondary Student Intake:
May-August
Secondary Student Intake:
July-August

The Greater Sudbury Police Service, in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, will be offering an opportunity this summer for youth in our community to develop job skills while enhancing police and community relations. This opportunity is provided by the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI). The Youth in Policing Initiative provides an opportunity for youth who are reflective of the cultural diversity of the community, to gain an overall understanding of the diverse work opportunities within the Police Service while gaining valuable work experience and skills training.

We will have opportunities available in the following areas:

  • Records and Customer Service
  • Community Safety and Well-Being
  • Fleet and Facilities
  • Health and Wellness
  • Indigenous Liaison Office
  • Requirements to be considered for the YIPI Program:

  • Returning to school in September.
  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age (as of the first day of employment) *
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Seeking work experience/job skills training.
  • Would benefit from this developmental opportunity regarding leadership and civic responsibility.
  • Agree to a mentoring relationship with our fellow Officers and/or Police Professionals.
  • Successfully complete the recruitment/background check process.

  • * This requirement is only applicable for positions funded under the Youth in Policing Initative and is not applicable to all the opportunities above. Students are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet this funding requirement.

    Skills:

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy with a large volume of work.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Proven organizational, time management and motivational skills.
  • Ability to organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated analytical observation, thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically capable of lifting, carrying, and placing heavy items (ie. Bankers Boxes containing file folders).
  • In addition, the following qualifications for this position are considered an asset:

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Power Point
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset
  • Rate of Pay: $17.60/ hour
