JOB SUMMARY

The Diesel Truck & Equipment Mechanic will work on a variety of equipment, including but not limited to, tractors, fork trucks, loaders and the delivery fleet. This position is responsible for the service, repair, and maintenance of fleet vehicles and various types of heavy equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret the results to offer suitable solutions.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance to ensure all equipment is safe and in good working condition.
  • Propose and complete repairs in a cost-effective manner.
  • Communicate and collaborate with colleagues and shop manager.
  • Troubleshoot reported issues with equipment and perform major repair work when necessary.
  • Replace damaged parts utilizing various hand and power tools.
  • Ensure repairs and work orders are completed in a timely manner.
  • Determine what parts and tools are necessary to make repairs using independent judgement.
  • Follow standard operating procedures including documenting all work performed on work orders.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Always follow safety and environmental procedures.
  • Recognize and responsibly manage hazards encountered in the course of work.
  • Provide consultation to other mechanics on equipment issues as requested.
  • Complete required annual trainings as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience working with diesel engines, trucks, trailers and other heavy equipment. Experience must include equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Post-secondary certificate or training as a mechanic preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to supply personal hand and power tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of engines, heavy equipment, and diesel mechanics.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read written instructions and procedures.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Understanding of computer testing technologies.
  • Knowledge of current maintenance and repair standards and the latest technology.
  • Must demonstrate strong time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and safety.
  • Strong diagnostic skills.
