Job Summary

This is an entry level maintenance mechanic position. Under supervision of a higher-level mechanic, the candidate will learn proper troubleshooting and repair of equipment associated with production in a timely manner and maintain all building support equipment, including air, water, steam, hydraulic, refrigeration, and electric systems.

Shift Hours

10:00pm to 6:30am, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Properly troubleshoot and repair all equipment in the production facility with supervision.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all production and warehouse equipment.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, welding, and plumbing duties as required.
  • Rebuild or replace equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, bearings, bushings, chains, bundler headers, conveyors, etc.
  • Complete assigned work orders by required due dates.
  • Complete assigned housekeeping duties.
  • Communicate to Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager any condition that prevents product manufacture to established standards.
  • Work in a safe manner, complying with company, state and federal GMPs, SOPs and company policy and procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends, holidays, and emergencies, as needed.
  • Possess own basic hand tools necessary to perform the requirements of the position.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and display a positive attitude.
  • Other duties assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Must take in-house mechanical aptitude test.
  • Basic math and reading skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a group/team atmosphere.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Communication:
    Required to talk and hear.
  • Visual:
    Ability to read small print (manuals).
  • Dexterity:
    Ability to use hand and fingers to perform tasks.
  • Standing:
    Long periods of time (4-6 hours).
  • Sitting:
    Infrequently.
  • Walking:
    Occasionally for short periods.
  • Climbing:
    Frequently – work must be performed while standing on ladders.
  • Squatting/Crouching:
    Frequently.
  • Use of Hands/Wrists/Arms:
    Frequently.
  • Twisting of wrists:
    Frequently.
  • Lifting:
    Light (30 lbs. occasionally).
  • Carrying:
    Light (30-50 lbs. frequently, distance 30 yards).
  • Pushing/Pulling:
    Under 75 lbs. without assistance frequently.
  • Pulling:
    Over 75 lbs. with assistance occasionally.
  • Temperature tolerance: 100°F to
    -40°F for varied periods of time.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing environment with moving parts.
  • High noise levels.
  • Outdoor temperature ranges from 95°F and higher to
    -5°F and lower.
  • Indoor temperature ranges from 80°F and higher to
    -30°F and lower.
  • Wet, damp and icy conditions.
  • Chemical hazards including cleaning and refrigeration chemicals.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner at all times, following all safety policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Report unsafe observations or conditions to a supervisor or manager.
  • Immediately report an injury or accident to a supervisor or manager.
  • Meet all company requirements for training, including Log Out/Tag Out, confined space, electrical safety, Hazmat Technician, hot work, ladder, fall protection, fire safety, etc.
  • Support SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner following prescribed procedures.
  • Report food safety problems to a supervisor or manager.
  • Maintain the preventative maintenance program.
Compensation

Pay range: $27.01 - $29.41 USD.
