Academy Camps is an overnight sports‑specific sleepaway experience that takes place on the campus of Suffield Academy (CT). We are looking for an experienced Baseball Coach to be a member of our coaching and camp counselor staff for the 2026 summer season.
Who We AreAcademy Camps offers 1‑week sessions for boys and girls aged 10‑15 interested in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, squash, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. Campers choose one of our 8 “Academy Sports” and receive 2 intensive training sessions per day with our high‑performance coaching staff. We focus on Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership, balanced with traditional sleepaway camp activities.
PositionOur Baseball Coach will support the Director of Baseball and peer coaches in delivering a program that improves athletes’ physical, mental, and emotional skills. You will coach sports‑specific skills, game IQ, and overall fitness, while teaching confidence, growth mindset, and teamwork. In addition, you will serve as a Dorm Counselor, overseeing 10‑15 campers, coordinating dorm activities, and fostering a positive camp environment.
Key Responsibilities Coach Life- Implement coaching strategies outlined in the one‑week Academy Camps Baseball Program.
- Mentor camper athletes to foster athletic, emotional, and social growth.
- Apply youth development principles in communication, relationship building, and respect for diversity.
- Live with other coaches, managing the dorm as a unified team.
- Know every camper and respond to individual needs.
- Encourage, support, and set limits to promote physical and emotional health.
- Teach campers self‑care and independent living skills.
- Maintain dorm cleanliness and safety awareness.
- Assist in planning and supervising evening programs, special events, and all‑camp activities.
- Participate in all staff training and meetings.
- Prepare for, accept feedback, and constructively problem‑solve during supervision sessions.
- 4+ years of competitive playing experience (required), collegiate level preferred.
- Desire to develop as a coach (required), coaching experience preferred.
- Experience working with youth in sports or educational programs (required).
- Excellent relationship builder, quick to connect and build trust.
- Goal‑oriented coach, motivated to help athletes achieve goals.
- Creative problem‑solver with an empathetic approach to customer service and team management.
- Growth mindset: open to learning, receiving feedback, and learning from mistakes.
- Available and on‑site for full summer session (June 22 – August
8), including pre‑season training and post‑camp. - Compensation $2,500 – $4,000, includes room and board.
- Reside on campus; share a room with a co‑dorm counselor.
- Option to increase compensation through Camper Referral Program: $250 per referred camper.
