Director of Baseball (Head Baseball Coach) - Overview

Reports to:

Executive Director & Camp Director. Academy Camps is an overnight sports-specific sleepaway camp on the campus of Suffield Academy (CT). The role is for the 2026 summer season and is a turn‑key position that allows the coach to focus on athlete development without operational hurdles.

• Create and implement a one‑week Academy Camps Baseball Program with coaching strategies designed to support athletes in achieving their goals.
• Get to know every athlete well and respond to their individual needs.
• Mentor athletes to foster athletic, emotional, and social growth.
• Apply basic youth development principles through communication, relationship building, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
• Create and use an Academy Camps Baseball Athlete Evaluation process and form.
• Complete the Athlete Evaluation for every athlete upon completion of their session, with the support of your coaching staff.
• Support the recruiting process to identify and hire an ideal coaching team.
• Manage and mentor 1‑6 coaches by providing responsibilities, regular feedback, and end‑of‑session staff evaluations.
• Maintain equipment and facilities to ensure safe playing conditions.
• After each training session, ensure the area is clean and equipment is returned to storage.
• Participate as a member of the camp team to deliver and supervise electives, evening programs, special events, and other all‑camp activities and functions as needed.
• Actively participate in all staff training & meetings.
• Manage and coordinate any inter‑league or inter‑camp competitions.

• Earn referral bonuses by driving the camper recruiting process by identifying and recruiting prospective athletes.
• Earn a $250 referral bonus for each camper enrolled.

• 6+ years of experience coaching (required) and certifications (preferred).
• Proven track record of program development and management.
• A holistic approach to coaching - willing and able to develop the whole athlete physically, mentally and emotionally.
• Excellent relationship builder – quick to connect, build trust, and rapport.
• Goal‑oriented coach – motivated to support athletes in achieving their goals.
• Creative problem‑solver – ability to identify issues and implement solutions that ensure ongoing athlete development.
• Growth mindset – orientation towards learning and development; willing to receive and implement feedback and learn from mistakes.

• Available and on‑site for the full summer session, including staff pre‑season training and post‑camp:
  June 20 - August 8.
• Room and board included on‑site at Suffield Academy, with access to state‑of‑the‑art athletic facilities.
• Compensation for a full summer commitment is $7,000 - $12,000 (includes room and board).
• Travel stipend provided to support relocation.
• Opportunity to grow with Academy Camps as the organization expands regionally and nationally.
• Follow camp staff rules and regulations as outlined in the Academy Camps Staff Playbook.
