Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Hospitalist - Nights

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries.

The Stroke Center is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, the hospital has multiple outpatient sites, including a wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant – Hospitalist – Full Time Nights – Medical Staff Services – Full-Time – 07:00 PM. In this role, the successful candidate will provide quality, professional, cost‑effective health care to all patients at NYULH‑Suffolk. Physician assistants practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician.

The PA shall be permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of training/skills delegated by the supervising physician or the physician’s physician that has been approved by the Credentials Committee and is within the scope of practice of the physician. PAs provide care for in‑ and outpatients primarily in‑house, including the Emergency Department, Pre‑Admission Testing, the operating room, Employee Health, and Psych Care, including pediatrics.

• Introduces/identifies self as a physician assistant
• Performs initial assessment/history and physical examination
• Orders and interprets tests/results (lab, radiologic, EKG, etc.) based on patient need
• Documents care in the chart in accordance with Hospital policy & procedure
• Formulates diagnoses
• Formulates and implements treatment plan
• Consults with physician when required based on patient’s condition
• Reassesses patients
• Orders, applies, removes, reapplies restraints
• Provides emergency medical care including Code 64 management
• Triages patients – ED only
• Performs Trauma assessment/reassessment (Trauma Team only)
• Legibly documents in patient chart, departmental forms, and any other Hospital forms all pertinent patient information following departmental and Hospital policies.
• Documents any patient or family education on the Hospital patient and family education form.
• All orders and entries dated and timed
• Level of documentation matches severity of situation
• Results of tests ordered documented
• Procedure notes completed
• Follow‑up/consultation with physician documented
• Verbal/telephone orders signed, dated, and timed by end of shift
• Billing forms completed fully and submitted – house only
• Discharge instructions written and given – ED only
• Explains procedure to patient/family
• Uses sterile technique
• Performs procedures following accepted standards of care – IVs, Foley cath, NGT, CVL removal, etc.
• Suturing‑technique, suture selection, etc.
• Splinting‑technique – ED only
• Assists in surgery‑technique – OR credential led only
• Performs CAT scan/MRI injections
