Position Purpose

Develop students' knowledge and understanding of music technology and production; to develop skills in digital audio mixing; and develop an understanding of the production aspects of the music industry preparing students for production work. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Center for Performance and Production Arts (CPPA) building administration and CPPA Facilitator.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and administers Fine and Performing Arts and CPPA curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop unit organization around music production and technology, using music created within the school, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Teaches knowledge of music, instrumental and vocal, incorporating production and design in a cultural context.
  • Teaches music theory, aural skills and practical techniques to students and prepares students for practical musical assessments.
  • Has extensive knowledge of and teaches use of Digital Audio Workstations (DAW).
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the music field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate technology, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Assess students’ abilities, providing feedback and writing reports.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

Additional Duties

  • Teaching responsibilities could include:
    Music Technology and Production, Music Theory, Performance-based Ensemble classes, Piano Lab; and Songwriting.
  • Oversee student field-based work and audio programs.
  • Develop and maintain the Department's music technology facilities and equipment, both hardware and software.
  • Maintain a network of contacts in order to ensure work continuity and cultivate relationships for students’ learning.
  • Assist in recruitment of students.

Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of music technology, music theory, and production.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of music in a variety of subtopics, including, but not limited to, instrumental, vocal, rhythmic/percussion performance.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Works in standard office and school building environments.
