Overview
Science 7 Teacher role at Suffolk Public Schools.
Responsibilities- Develops and administers middle school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
- Teaches all required subject matters for the grade level as assigned, utilizing the adopted course of study and relevant learning activities.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students’ needs, including students with special needs; provides small group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters as required by applicable laws and Suffolk Public Schools regulations.
- Continues professional development through seminars, workshops, or research to stay current in the education field.
- Maintains accurate records for grading and reporting in accordance with district procedures and laws.
- Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Maintains classroom standards of behavior and a positive learning environment.
- Collaborates with middle school staff to evaluate and assess curriculum and participates in staff meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions instructional materials and maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students in activities outside the classroom during the school day and during school transportation as needed.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with district programs.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum across related subjects.
- Knowledge of data systems, data analysis, and action planning.
- Knowledge of applicable laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer networks and software applications; organize and coordinate work; communicate effectively with students and parents; engage in professional self-evaluation; establish cooperative working relationships.
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License endorsed in Middle School Science or Middle School 6-8.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Salary Range: $60,000 - $93,446 (plus $2,944 for Master’s Degree).
- Contract:
10 months. - Benefits:
