About the RoleWe are currently seeking an Environmental Construction Specialist to work on Electric Utility Construction Projects. This is a field position, and candidates must have experience with environmental compliance in relation to land clearing and linear construction projects. WhatYou Will Do Regulatory Compliance
- Provides Environmental Compliance and construction oversight on transmission site development and linear transmission line construction projects for electric transmission infrastructure.
- Provides environmental oversight and compliance/inspections associated with transmission capital projects and the NPDES and SWPPP.
- Ensure compliance with laws and regulations for wetland access, protected species, wood and debris disposal, site control and soil disturbance.
- Ensure that all field operations are in compliance with permits, including road use permits, natural resource protection act permits, Corp of Engineers permits, etc.
- Document pre‑ and post‑work field conditions to make sure that sites are in compliance with permits and environmental regulations and there are no conditions that require mitigation or restoration.
- Performs all required erosion and sediment, stormwater management and pollution prevention inspections for applicable construction projects.
- Interprets complex plans and drawings.
- Perform duties in a manner that will promote and maintain good public relations.
- Responsible for attending pre‑construction meetings, constructability meetings, and status meetings as directed.
- Manage and oversee site development crews. Responsible for providing oversight for sediment and erosion control or BMP contractors to ensure all measures are installed as per the approved plan.
- Observe that wetlands & sensitive areas identification are in place and that crews are aware of them prior to entering such areas.
- Monitors and reports to Project Management on status of construction units estimated and actuals billed to date of project.
- Communicate daily with the utility client, contractors, landowners, and the public.
- Assist in developing recommendations on future right‑of‑way maintenance requirements.
- Drive a company vehicle safely to work locations for the organization.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental science, construction management, building science, or a related field.
- 1‑5 years’ experience in site development work, permitting utility construction, environmental compliance, or a related field.
- Must have solid understanding of the NPDES Construction General Permit (CGP) and SWPPP implementation and inspections associated with these permits and plans.
- Desire to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong public relation skills/ability to interface with the public.
- Willingness to work alone.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Substantial background in electric transmission construction, pipeline, and/or utility field.
- SWPPP book knowledge.
- CESSWI certification.
- Previous construction crew oversight experience.
- GIS experience.
- Strong knowledge ANSI Z133 safety standards.
- Having a military background is a plus.
- Bi‑Lingual speaking (English and Spanish) is a plus.
Work alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines; remote locations as well as urban, city environment; physical demands and travel from site to site, including walking/hiking on various surfaces including flat, dry, wet, slippery, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills, and slopes; exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions;
