Job SummaryThe Certified Medical Assistant is a key part of our team, working closely with the primary care physician to deliver high quality patient care while ensuring services are within medical assisting scope and state guidelines. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.
Essential Functions- Provides excellent customer service by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner.
- Prepares & reviews patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up-to-date.
- Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
- Performs departmental‑related clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
- Possesses the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Degree or GED.
- Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required):
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA);
American Association of Medical Assisting, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA);
American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA);
National Health career Association (NHA);
Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA);
National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA);
National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) - Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (A
-OE) is acceptable if the incumbent cannot obtain MA certification (not accepted in SC). - BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association: required at hire (or before independent patient care at BSMH) for certain locations.
- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
- Problem‑solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional engagement with staff and patients.
