NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306‑bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory and bariatric surgery. Our provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries.
The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center and various primary care and specialty offices.
Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pathology Assistant – Per Diem – Clinical Labs – Pathological Adm – Monday – Friday with Alternatin. In this role the successful candidate is a Pathologist Assistant graduated with a PA license.
Job Responsibilities- Work in gross room to take care of all related duties including blocks.
- Properly handle reference lab specimens and resolve problems with specimen receipt.
- Perform frozen sections and special studies as needed per laboratory procedures.
- Assist the pathologist in preparation, staining and cover skipping of the sample selected for frozen section analysis.
- Accession, bill and label specimen containers and requisitions accurately and efficiently.
- Complete daily assignments in an organized, efficient manner and oversee activities in frozen section room.
- Develop, coordinate and provide team support to accomplish day‑to‑day activities and tasks.
- Describe, dictate and dissect all categories of surgical specimens in accordance with departmental guidelines accurately and efficiently.
- Utilize computer appropriately to accurately enter required information on the Histology log sheet.
- Recognize the appropriateness of a test requisition from physician, reference laboratory or consultant and choose appropriate samples for decalcification process.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pathologist Assistant or related field or graduate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) approved Pathologists' Assistant program.
- NYS Pathologist Assistant License or NYS Pathologist Assistant Permit.
- Strong communication (both oral and written), problem‑solving and organization skills.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel.
- Ability to maintain professional conduct under stressful conditions.
- 1–2 years anatomic pathology services.
- National Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or eligibility.
