Job Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with the primary care physician to deliver excellent patient care within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. Responsibilities include reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.
Essential Functions:
- Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
- Prepares & reviews patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
- Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height
- Performs departmental‑related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed
- Possesses the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Licensure/Certification:
- Active Medical Assisting certification (CMA; RMA; CCMA; NRCMA; NCMA; or trained equivalent). If not certified, an Assessment‑Based Recognition in Order Entry (A ‑OE) is acceptable (not accepted in South Carolina).
- BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
Experience:
- One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
- Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required)
Skills & Abilities:
- Possesses problem‑solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Engages with staff and patients in a professional manner
