Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Surgical Technologist for a flexi-rotating shift position in Suffolk, VA. The Surgical Technologist ensures the operating room is properly prepared, maintains the sterile field, passes instruments, and anticipates the needs of the surgeon throughout procedures, ensuring patient safety and a clean, sterile environment.

On-call weekend rotations every 8th weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 24‑hour), rotating weekday overnight call, and one holiday per year. Surgical Services offers flexible scheduling options such as 8, 10, or 12‑hour shifts to accommodate work–life balance.

Sentara Obici Hospital is a recognized Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital with an average of 5,000 cases per year. The 40‑person team supports seven operating rooms and performs a diverse range of procedures using advanced systems like DaVinci robotic technology. The team includes RNs, surgical assistants, surgical technologists, and OR techs and works across Obici and Bell Harbor hospitals, with occasional float to obstetrics as needed.

The Surgical Technologist prepares the operating room, assists the surgical team by passing instruments, maintains the sterile field, anticipates the surgeon’s needs, applies dressings, secures surgical drapes, transfers patients to recovery areas, and adheres to infection control protocols and sterile techniques to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.

• TS – Trade School Graduate – Surgical Technologist (Required)
• Students in the process of completing a Surgical Technologist Program may be considered.

• Licensed Surgical Technologist – Virginia (Required)
• One of the following Certifications

  Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – NBSTSA OR Tech in Surgery TS‑C – NCCT
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA (Required)

• Operating room experience (preferred)
• Strong understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and patient safety protocols.
• Strong communication skills with providers and surgical staff required.
