DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class assists with various operations of the District Attorney's Office, including:
- T he performance of specialized clerical duties for the legal and investigative staff;
- Transport of witnesses, grand jurors and/or legal records;
- Maintenance of closed criminal case and investigative files;
- Providing assistance to the public in completing various complaint forms
- Work requires some independent judgment and is performed under the general supervision of an Assistant District Attorney or Detective Investigator; and
- Related work as required.
- Runs criminal histories and stolen property inquiries on NYSPIN system as requested by Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators in the office or in the field
- Maintains base station for two-way radio contact with field personnel;
- Enters arrest data and activity reports into the District Attorney's automated systems and prepares police teletype witness notifications;
- Transports legal documents, witnesses and/or grand jurors between the District Attorney's several locations, the Courts and/or to residences;
- Maintains criminal case records and retrieves and transports closed cases and investigative files as requested by Assistant District Attorneys and Investigative staff
- Matches criminal histories with active case files;
- Assists Investigative and secretarial staff in use of specialized automated record systems; and
- Assists the public in completing bad check and incident complaint forms.
- Good knowledge of terminology, procedures and automated systems used in the District Attorney's Office;
- Ability to maintain accurate records;
- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly;
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public;
- Ability to establish good working relationships with attorneys, investigators and police officers assigned to the District Attorney's Office; and
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Either:
- (a) Two years of experience in the day-to-day operations of a law enforcement agency;
- (b) Sixty (60) credits from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by New York State;
- (c) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
- Base salary is approximately $42,000;

Depending on the nature of the assignment, at the time of appointment and during employment in this title, candidates may be required to possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the vehicle to be operated.
The job assignment may require attainment of New York State Police Information Network (NYSPIN) certification within (1) month of appointment and maintenance of this certification while employed in this title.
