NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306‑bed medical center located on eastern Long Island. The hospital hosts the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a Level 2 Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center, and multiple outpatient sites. The facility offers advanced cardiac diagnostics, an ambulatory surgical pavilion, and specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery.
Position SummaryRegistered Nurse (36) – Med Surg / Tele 4N – Part Time, Nights. The RN delivers professional nursing care in accordance with physician treatment plans, evaluates patients’ progress, and documents observations. The role collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and directs care of other nursing staff, also participating in new employee orientation.
Job Responsibilities- Collect patient health data involving the patient, family, and other health care providers.
- Perform initial assessment based on patient presentation and document relevant data.
- Identify problems, set individualized outcomes, and develop plans of care that integrate cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects.
- Communicate expected outcomes and the plan of care to patients, families, and other health care providers.
- Provide education to patients and families using the identified learning needs.
- Recognize hazards to patient safety and maintain a safe environment.
- Work collaboratively with team members to implement interventions and delegate tasks as defined by the state nurse practice act.
- Maintain knowledge regarding drug administration and comply with medication policy and procedure.
- Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and revise the plan of care as needed.
- Engage in performance appraisal and participate in quality improvement activities.
- Maintain professional development through meetings, educational programs, and committee participation.
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two‑year training at an accredited School of Nursing.
Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
BLS certification and de‑escalation training.
ACLS (ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept).
TCAR Certification (SICU, PACU).
For Emergency Dept: PALS, TNCC (within first year).
Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and families, demonstrating recognition of cultural diversity.
Customer service excellence and clear verbal and written communication.
Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions to clinical situations or unit problems.
Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, bend, squat, kneel, climb steps, and reach above shoulders without exceeding limits.
Required Licenses:
Registered Nurse License – NYS.
For ASU RN:
1‑year critical care experience preferred.
BSN preferred.
PALS preferred.
Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g., CAPA) preferred.
1‑year nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post‑anesthesia care preferred.
Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre and post‑operative patients preferred.
Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients preferred.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems, including documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and discharge instructions preferred.
