Part Time LPN (Weekend Only)
Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina, is devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders and is seeking a top LPN candidate to oversee the operation of a Multispecialty Infusion Clinic (MSI) for weekend infusions of monoclonal antibodies.
OverviewSuccessful candidates will onboard patient referrals to the clinic via telehealth visits and provide incident‑to coverage for Saturday and Sunday infusion appointments. Candidates must be able to directly manage infusion emergencies in the office and be willing to travel to sites where appointments are offered throughout the month.
Responsibilities- Provides general nursing care to patients.
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
- Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
- Completes paperwork including but not limited to FMLA, disability, Home Health/Hospice, and transfusion orders.
- Screen patients for appropriate information.
- Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls.
- Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Arranges transfusions and hospital admissions upon request.
- Assures appropriate consent has been obtained prior to treatment or procedures.
- Prepares exam rooms including restocking of treatment areas.
- Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed.
- High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing. BSN preferred.
- Requires a minimum of two years experience as a practical nurse (with Central Line Care and IV skills) in a hospital or clinic setting.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Must be willing to travel between offices when needed.
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires the ability to bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in moving; assist patients in arising from exam table or bed; push wheelchair patients; assist patients in arising from and returning to wheelchair. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
