Location:

Suffolk, Virginia. This is an off-campus position located at the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center (AREC), Suffolk, Virginia.

• Provide assistance to a soybean program at the Virginia Tech Tidewater AREC.
• Safely load and transport plot planter and combine.
• Plant and harvest research plots under the direction of the Ag Supervisor.
• Operate a GPS-controlled precision planter and associated computer hardware systems.
• Assist with packaging seed for variety tests.
• Collect field data and assist with its entry and processing in a computer database.
• Grade soybean seed samples for quality and disease after harvest.

• General knowledge of crop production.
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors under hot, humid, and/or dusty conditions.
• Experience working independently as well as in a team environment.
• Licensed to operate a motor vehicle.

• Experience with agronomic research, data collection, seed grading, and computer software.
• Class A CDL license to operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to load, transport, and operate heavy equipment.

• Pay: $16 - $18 per hour; commensurate with experience.
• Hours per week:
  Varies, not to exceed 1500 hours per year.
• Overtime Status:
  Non-Exempt;
  Eligible for overtime.
• Appointment Type:
  Restricted.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
