Job Description

Under regular supervision, performs skilled work in the painting for the Roadway Department. Work involves laying out, printing, and applying street markings, striping, lines, and directional messages on City streets; and operating heavy equipment. Reports to the Paint Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions
  • Paint lines, legends, traffic messages, crosswalks, curb markings, and parking spaces on street surfaces, curbs, and City‑owned parking facilities.
  • Set up and remove barricades from work areas and detours.
  • Operate and maintain street marking equipment and other specialized technical equipment, including large computer‑operated airless striper.
  • Inventory materials and report any necessary material needs.
  • Walk up to a mile consistently.
  • Remove and add painted markings for new construction.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Operate grinding machines to remove old street markings.
  • Receive and/or review various records and reports, including maintenance and repair reports.
  • Prepare and/or process various records and reports, including equipment inspection forms and activity reports.
  • Refer to equipment maintenance manuals, SDS forms, employee handbook, traffic control manual (WAPM), etc.
  • Operate a variety of equipment such as street marking equipment, grinding machine, mechanic tools, etc.
  • Use a variety of tools such as mechanic tools, power tools, vehicle pressure washer, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as construction supplies, replacement parts, maintenance forms, equipment inspection forms, etc.
  • Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals including equipment operator, other employees, and the general public.
  • Respond to emergencies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by some experience in graphics and sign fabrication; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid driver’s license is required; a Commercial Driver’s License Class A must be obtained within 120 days of employment.
