JV Cheer Coach.
Reports ToThe Athletic Director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
SupervisesThe head coach coordinates and supports a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principals.
Job GoalTo instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for team and individual success while fostering socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment. Continuously upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
Qualifications- Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports).
- Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continues to explore new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
- Has thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Suffolk Public Schools Board of Education; responsible for their implementation.
- Knows existing system, state and league regulations; implements consistently and interprets for staff.
- Understands the proper administrative line of command; refers all requests or grievances through proper channels.
- Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by assistants; designs conferences, clinics, and staff meetings.
- Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance.
- Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season's end, analyzes staff effectiveness.
- Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
- Assists the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special sport events.
- Prepares scheduled sport events or practices, adheres to facility times, and coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
- Produces documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
- Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment.
- Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method or procedural changes.
- Serves as a mentor, promoting character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- Monitors student athletes' grades and conduct; provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards during practices, games, and travel.
- Provides training rules, schedules, calendars, and regulatory information to each athlete and parent.
- Follows injury, medical attention, and emergency policies.
- Directs the SPS Trainer to complete paperwork on all disabling injuries within 24 hours.
- Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
- Determines discipline, delineates due‑process procedures, and contacts parents and the Athletic Director when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
- Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
- Participates in budgeting, establishes equipment guidelines, and manages equipment accounting.
- Maintains equipment inventory and protects equipment rooms and coaches' offices.
- Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Seals doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving; ensures safety.
- Instills respect for equipment and school property.
- Organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.
- Promotes the sport within the school and externally through recruiting and media.
- Manages official releases to local media and maintains public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
- Presents schedules, tournaments, and results to the media.
