Job Description

The General Maintenance Mechanic reports to the General Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and the Plant Operations Manager. The position is responsible for all routine preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment at the Sugar Grove Campus, including heating and cooling systems.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and monitor heating and cooling systems, including inspection, replacement of V‑belts, air filters, and grease bearings.
  • Assist with HVAC system troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Safely maintain chemical treatment for heating and cooling systems; perform daily testing and make operational adjustments as needed.
  • Perform monthly boiler safety inspections and testing.
  • Perform monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Perform annual Science Building hood airflow certification testing.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs for sinks, toilets, urinals, and water fountains.
  • Troubleshoot 120V, 208V, and 480V control circuits; perform basic electrical repair and maintenance.
  • Assist mechanics as required and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of employment in a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Teamplayer with ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Physical ability to lift 80 lbs occasionally and work from ladders, scaffolds, or lifts.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to climb, stand, crawl, and walk frequently.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to perform basic work order functions using smartphone, computer, and related devices.
