Position: Tax Manager (CPA) – Part-Time (W-2)

Role Overview

We are seeking a senior-level tax professional with strong technical tax expertise to support our tax practice on a full-time or part-time basis. Depending on experience and fit, this role may be structured as a Senior Tax Accountant or Tax Manager.

This position is hands‑on and technical in nature. The primary responsibility is to ensure tax returns are prepared and reviewed correctly and thoroughly, with a solid understanding of complex tax matters across a variety of entity types. The ideal candidate has practical, hands‑on experience, is technically strong, and is comfortable working with modern tax technology in a growing firm environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, businesses, trusts, estates, and not-for-profit organizations using CCH Axcess Tax
  • Take ownership of technical accuracy and completeness of tax filings
  • Independently handle complex tax matters, including, but not limited to:
    • Asset sales and dispositions
    • Complex individual and business transactions
    • Entity structures, ownership changes, and tax elections
    • Multi-state and nonresident filings
    • Foreign assets, foreign income, and international information reporting (e.g., FBAR and related forms)
  • Apply strong technical judgment to non-routine or unclear tax situations based on prior experience
  • Review tax work papers and underlying financial information for reasonableness and consistency
  • Serve as an internal technical resource for tax law interpretation and CCH Axcess Tax usage
  • Use Excel effectively to analyze tax data, reconcile information, and support tax conclusions
  • Work comfortably with firm technology, workflows, and documentation standards
  • Adapt to new tools, process improvements, and evolving technology (including AI-assisted tools) as the firm continues to modernize
  • Assist with amended returns, extensions, and IRS or state notices as needed
  • Collaborate with the owner and team to maintain consistent quality across all tax engagements
Why Join Us

We are a small CPA firm intentionally transitioning from an owner-driven practice to a more structured, scalable organization. Our focus is not just growing the client base, but building a technically strong firm with solid processes, consistent quality, and a foundation for long‑term growth.

As part of this evolution, we are gradually expanding services such as tax planning, advisory, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and related support services, while continuing to strengthen our core tax compliance work. This role offers the opportunity to grow and build with the firm, contributing strong technical expertise while helping shape systems, workflows, and standards as the firm continues to mature.

We value efficiency, correctness, flexibility, and the smart use of technology. This position is well suited for experienced tax professionals — including working parents — who want meaningful work, flexibility, and the chance to contribute at a high technical level while aligning with a long‑term vision.

Benefits:
  • Flexible schedule
  • License reimbursement
  • Paid training
  • Professional development assistance
  • Travel reimbursement
Role Flexibility
  • Open to full-time or part-time arrangements
  • Title and scope aligned based on experience and availability
  • Opportunity to grow with the firm as it continues to develop
Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years of hands‑on tax experience
  • 2+ years of public accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns
  • Direct experience with complex tax issues, including asset transactions and foreign reporting
  • Strong working knowledge of CCH Axcess Tax
  • Solid technical foundation in individual, business, trust, and non‑profit taxation
  • Strong tax research skills and ability to arrive at well‑supported conclusions
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Comfortable adopting new tools, workflows, and technology in a growing firm
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for technical accuracy
Preferred
  • CPA or EA (CPA in progress acceptable)
  • Multi‑state tax experience
  • Experience working in a small or mid‑size CPA firm
  • Taiwanese and/or Mandarin Chinese language skills (a plus)
