Overview:

The Construction Inspector is responsible for the monitoring, inspections, and reporting of quality and performance of capital improvement projects. This position reports to Director(s) of Engineering and serves as a primary support role for Project Managers. The position has a heavy focus on water and wastewater infrastructure construction including facilities, water distribution, sewer collection systems, and their respective sub trades.

Perform project communication and project coordination, perform public works inspections, ensure quality control of materials and methods, maintain construction records and perform reporting, and manage construction contracts. This position’s experience and knowledge of the primary responsibilities will be advanced and the Inspector III will work independently.

What You’ll Do:
  • Read and interpret construction contracts, drawings, specifications and other project related documentation to effectively inspect, observe and report on contractor activities and to verify that the work is compliant; inform contractors and/or applicable managers of any deviations in compliance with contract documents or failure to rectify work.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date and factual daily log describing the activities and the work of the General Construction Contractor and/or their subcontractor, including conversations (phone calls, in person, etc.); prepare and submit related daily reports.
  • Utilize and maintain the paper and electronic document control systems.
  • Maintain project record files; prepare deficiency reports and follow up to ensure correction.
  • Provide oversight on multiple, simultaneous projects; observe and report on issues impacting the work or the progress of the work. Coordinate with the contractor on daily and weekly schedule tasks in the field and report any delayed tasks to the Construction Manager. Advise contractor and report non‑compliant work or materials to the Construction Manager.
  • Conduct site safety inspections.
  • Conduct site inspections for SWPPP compliance.
  • Review, verify, and recommend the quantities contained in the Contractor’s monthly application for payment request and make recommendations to the Construction Manager regarding payment of monthly application, Partial Substantial Completion, Substantial Completion, and Final Completion requests for payment; ensure timely Contractor submittal and Owner payment.
  • Attend and participate with the Contractor in all routine meetings and inspections as set forth in the Contract Documents and special meetings when requested; assist in responding to impacts and concerns of construction on the local community.
  • Assist operations staff on an as‑needed basis for new service taps.
