IoT Field Engineer – Houston, TX (Entry Level, 1–4 Years Experience)
Location: Houston, Texas (prefer if the individual is based in the greater Houston area).
Employment Type: Contract
Compensation: Hourly, based on experience
Role OverviewWe are seeking a motivated IoT Field Engineer to work with our global team. This role bridges hardware, field deployment, and customer engagement. You will work hands‑on with sensors, gateways, and cloud‑connected devices — and collaborate with our software and analytics teams to deliver complete IoT solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Understand customer requirements and translate them into IoT hardware configurations.
- Research, compare, and procure suitable IoT hardware (sensors, gateways, modems, power supplies).
- Perform on‑site visits that may require installations, wiring, and testing at field locations (in Texas and surrounding states).
- Configure and troubleshoot IoT gateways (e.g., NCD.io, Robustel, Milesight) and communication protocols (MQTT, Modbus, LoRaWAN, OPC‑UA).
- Integrate devices with cloud dashboards (AWS IoT, Node‑RED, Elliot Systems platform).
- Document installations, maintain configuration logs, and provide customer feedback.
- Use company‑provided processes and tools.
- Collaborate with software and data teams for system integration and analytics validation.
- Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
- 1–4 years of experience with IoT systems, industrial automation, or controls engineering.
- Familiarity with one or more protocols: MQTT, Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC‑UA, or LoRaWAN.
- Hands‑on skills with wiring, instrumentation, and networking (Ethernet, Wi‑Fi, cellular).
- Comfortable with field work and occasional customer site visits.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across global teams.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Company will not apply for work visa.
- Self‑starter, independent, collaborative, and curious to provide solutions.
- Experience with Node‑RED, Raspberry Pi, or other IoT hardware.
- Basic knowledge of AWS.
- Understanding of industrial sensors (pressure, flow, vibration, temperature, etc.).
- Familiarity with VPNs, static IPs, or cellular SIM configurations.
- Hourly.
- Mileage and travel reimbursement.
- Potential future opportunity to work in a Full‑Time role.
